Mucuna Matata

One of my favorite childhood memories is singing Hakuna Matata with one of my best friends, Rebecca. We would proudly sing this song in front of our other girl friends at sleep overs. No karaoke machine needed, we would just belt it out.

The song is incredibly appealing to all ages though, carrying a truth we all resonate with "No Worries". Who doesn't want this motto? As the song says, "Ain't no passing craze. It means no worries for the rest of your days:.problem-free philosophy."Hakuna_Matata

As you each probably know, stress has a huge impact on your health. It is absolutely vital that we approach life in a balanced way not heavily weighted with fear, stress, anxiety etc. But in our world today, it is virtually impossible to tell someone not to stress. Our fast pace lifestyle demands that we not only think healthy, but also eat healthy and eat in such a way that helps us to adapt to stress. While equipping and training our mind on how to view life and circumstances, we must also fuel our bodies in such a way to help our brains out.

Mucuna Puriens has recently become my Hakuna Matata food. It is a superfood bean, classified as an adaptogen. (Adaptogens are natural substances that help normalize and balance body functions; they can specifically help the body exposed to stress. Simply put, adaptogens help you adapt.) Mucuna helps boost your health in other ways as well. So lets drill into this little bean:

-Brain Food: It is a rich source of Levadopa (L-Dopa). L-Dopa is an amino acid that helps to make dopamine and other neurotransmitters in the brain. This is how it helps us adapt to stress etc. Because of its high content of L-Dopa, Mucuna has long been used to treat Parkinson's disease with great success (studies show at higher success than pharmaceuticals).

-Antioxidants: Mucuna is known through studies and ancient medicine to be a fabulous source of antioxidants (aka. your body's little helpers that fight free-radicals, which introduce aging and disease).

-Sex Booster: Mucuna has been shown through scientific study to help balance your hormones, boost testosterone levels, increase libido, boost sexual performance, increase quality (motility, volume etc.) of sperm etc. Talk about Hakuna Matata. Note: This is the perfect addition to anyone's diet dealing with infertility.

-Other benefits: Mucuna has been used historically to treat venomous snake bites, parasite infections, and arthritis. Mucuna helps lactating women with milk production. It has even been shown to help protect cardiac function.

Just saying: Mucuna Matata:ain't no passing craze!
